If you have a walk-in closet, it can be frustrating to pick out an article of clothing to see how it looks, only to find yourself unable to see very well because of poor lighting. Many closets have a single ceiling fixture that may not provide proper illumination to your entire wardrobe, so here are three tips to help you choose the right lighting for your closet.
One main thing that makes it difficult to see in a closet is the lack of light coming from multiple angles. A single bulb or dome fixture on the ceiling may make it hard to see shoes or other garments we typically keep closer to the floor. Consider installing some floor or wall-mounted lights to bring in illumination from multiple sources.
Track lighting may be one of the most valuable tips when choosing the right lighting for your closet. Instead of one light hanging downward, track lighting offers a long fixture you can install horizontally or vertically. Many of the individual light sources attached to track lighting are adjustable remotely or manually.
Not every solution to perfecting the lighting in your closet requires new fixtures; you may find things easier to see by simply using different bulbs. We recommend switching to LED bulbs if your closet still has incandescent lighting. You’ll want to check the acceptable wattage for bulbs in your closet or wardrobe and then look for bulbs with a higher lumen count.
The higher the lumen count, the brighter the bulb will be, and an increased brightness will be a significant help. When shopping for bulbs, you also want to check the Kelvin rating, as higher Kelvin numbers provide cooler or whiter light, which many people find helps more in illuminating the items in their closets.
